The old patio slabs were lifted and skipped, the rotten timber edging came out, and the garden was taken back to a clean, level base. Now there’s a porcelain patio at the back door, raised sleeper beds down both sides and an artificial lawn running all the way to the garden room.
Before we started
Same spot outside the back door. Cracked concrete slabs out; large-format porcelain, a new step and a linear drain along the edge in.

Old slabs, rubble and spoil went straight into the skip, taking the garden back to a base we could level properly.
Lifting the slabs exposed a cracked clay drain. It was [repaired / replaced] before any new base went down, so the new patio isn’t sitting on a problem.
The borders were dug out and lined with membrane, then new timber sleepers went in to form raised beds down both walls.
